Final Stats

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team fell to Gardener-Webb 58-36 in a Saturday afternoon matinee from the Runnin' Bulldogs' Paul Porter Center.

Gardner-Webb's (16-9, 8-4 Big South) defense clamped down on the Coastal Carolina offense throughout the game as it held the Chants to only 13 made field goals on the way to the win.

Coastal Carolina (9-15, 3-9 Big South) was led in the scoring column by freshman point guard Angelica Henry 's eight points on a perfect 3-of-3 from the field. Kira Carter was the Chants leading rebounder with three as seven others in the Coastal black and teal tied with two boards apiece.

Gardner-Webb's Monique Hudson set the bar for all scorers in the contest with 11 points on the way to leading her team to its 16th victory of the season. The Runnin' Bulldogs' LaTroya Pope was the games top rebounder with seven.

Despite forcing five more turnovers and holding a 12-9 edge in steals, the Chanticleers could not slow down the Runnin' Bulldogs attack that shot an even 50 percent from the floor for the day.

Coastal would only muster five field goals in the second half as Gardner-Webb applied steady and effective defensive pressure on the Chants throughout the frame. Eight of the Chants 17 points in the half came with under five minutes to play after Henry and Shanika Maddox were inserted into the lineup.

Through the first half of play, points were at a premium as both teams put out maximum effort on the defensive ends of the floor. The Chants forced 13 Runnin' Bulldogs turnovers in the half while picking up seven steals along the way. Gardner-Webb was able to pull out 25 points on the stingy Chant defense to take a 25-19 lead into the locker rooms.

Seven Chanticleers scored in the opening stanza to produce Coastal's 19 points at the break. Only Courtney Grambley was able to find the bottom of the net on more than one occasion as she connected on a jumper from the field and twice from the charity stripe to lead the Chants with four points.

Coastal Carolina will stay on the road as it travels to UNC Asheville for a showdown with the Bulldogs on Monday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. Asheville won the first meeting between the schools 65-53 on Jan. 15 at Kimbel Arena.

Gardner-Webb will host High Point at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21.
