CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University softball team won both games on day one of the Coastal Softball Tournament, defeating Towson 4-1 in game one and Delaware 4-2 in the night cap on Friday, March 4. The Chanticleers improve to 11-5 overall on the season.

In the top of the seventh, freshman Jessie Winans drew a lead off walked for the Chanticleers. Senior Michelle Evans then reached first on a throwing error, sending Winans to third. Freshman Kara Vonatzski pinch ran for Evans and then stole second. Freshman Brooke Donovan singled through the right side and advanced on the throw sending Vonatzski and Winans home for a 3-0 Coastal lead. Pierre followed with a single up the middle and advanced to second on the throw, sending Donovan home for a 4-0 Chanticleer lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Mickelle Oslin pinch hit for Lindsey Kent and hit a solo homerun to centerfield, giving the Tigers a run on the board, but it would not be enough as Coastal went on to win 4-1.

For Towson, Katie Lingmai, allowed four runs on six hits to get the loss and fall to 4-3.

In the top of the fourth, Delaware's Michelle Grap hit a triple down right center and then was helped home on a hit through the left side by Lara Andrews to tie the score up at 1-all.

Coastal had a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases, but ended the inning stranding all three runners.

Maples hit her fourth double of the day in the bottom of the fifth and Pierre added a double, sending Maples home to give the Chanticleers to a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Gina Knutson led off with a solo homerun to tie the score at 2-all.
