CLINTON - Turnovers and poor shooting plagued the Coastal Carolina women's basketball team as the squad fell 50-30 at Presbyterian College in a Saturday matinee.

Coastal's Kayla Cook and Alexx Puckett each finished with 10 points to lead the short-handed Chanticleers who were without leading scorer Shatia Cole due to an injury sustained against North Florida. Sophomore Savanah Pippin pulled down seven boards to finish the game as Coastal's top rebounder.

Presbyterian College's Karlee Taylor led all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-9 from the floor, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Shonda Burnside joined Taylor in double figures with 13 points.

The Chanticleers (6-6, 1-1 Big South) struggled to make shots throughout the contest, finishing with a season-low 19.6 shooting percentage. Coastal was also hurt by 18 turnovers that led to 14 Blue Hose points.

It was the second straight game that Coastal saw its opponent shoot well above its season average from 3-point land. Presbyterian College (7-6, 2-0 Big South) finished the game at an even 50 percent (5-of-10) from deep after shooting only 30.3 percent over its previous 12 games.

Sloppy play by both teams littered the first half as the sides combined for 27 turnovers and only 29 points with Presbyterian College heading into the intermission with a 17-12 lead. The Chants forced 17 turnovers in the first half and held the Blue Hose without a point for 11:31. However, Coastal was unable to take advantage of Presbyterian College's scoreless drought despite closing the deficit to five points at 15-12. The Blue Hose's Burnside banked a layup off the glass with 1:06 showing on the clock to break the scoreless drought and provide the final points of the half.

Puckett and Angelica Henry combined for a 6-5 run over the opening five minutes of the second half, cutting Presbyterian College's lead to four at 22-18. However, the Blue Hose responded with a 13-4 run, seven points of which came from Burnside, to pull out to 13-point lead at the under-8 media timeout.

The Chants were unable to overcome their second double-digit deficit of the game as Presbyterian College finished the contest on a 15-8 run to provide the 50-30 final score.

Coastal Carolina returns to the court on Jan. 3 for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Campbell. The Fighting Camels took both games from the Chants in last year's season series.
