CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team defeated the Catamounts of Western Carolina 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The Chanticleers swept the doubles portion (8-0, 8-1, 8-2) to open the match. Amanda Malatek and Dominique De Wit won 8-0 followed by Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock at the No. 1 position winning 8-1. Katie Fosnacht and Mikaela Kristofersson won 8-2.
The Coastal women won all six of the singles matches in straight sets. Malatek and De Wit did not lose a game in doubles and singles matches combined.
"I'm really proud of the way the girls stepped up and kept their focus for the entire match," said head coach Catherine Hewitt. "Considering the high wind and cold conditions, they battled hard."
The women's tennis match scheduled for Sunday at the College of Charleston has been canceled due to severe weather in the forecast. Please check back at GoCCUSports.com for a possible make-up date and time.
The next scheduled match is Saturday, Feb. 25 when the Chanticleers host conference foe Liberty at 10 a.m. at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
