CONWAY - Coastal Carolina men's tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating Longwood University 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
Coastal won the doubles point followed by Garik Yedigarian defeating Steed Johnson in straight sets to take a 2-0 lead on the future Big South Conference member. Playing in the No. 1 spot, Danny Heidecker defeated his opponent in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) to give Coastal a 3-0 advantage.
Needing one point to close out the match, Sam Barr would defeat his opponent in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) to help Coastal win its fourth match of the year.
Yusuke Kusuda, Leo Christofides and Matias Di Pasquale would all need extra sets to complete the shutout of the Lancers.
"Our preparation in practice is starting to show results," said head coach Chris Powers. "I was pleased with our overall effort and it was great to close the match winning all three tie-breakers. Saturday will be a great test and I hope we can carry over the momentum from today."
The match was previously scheduled for Sunday but due to forecasted inclement weather Coastal will host Richmond Saturday at 2 pm at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
