ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team defeated Winthrop 5-2 Friday afternoon at Memorial Courts.
This was the first time Coastal (12-3, 4-1) has won at Winthrop (9-13, 2-4) since 1994.
"We played our weakest doubles of the year but we responded with a full team effort in singles," said head coach Chris Powers. "I am proud of this win today. Our guys fought hard to the last point."
Coastal dropped the doubles point but won five of the six singles matches en route to its 13th win of the year.
Danny Heidecker (6-2, 6-0), Garik Yedigarian (6-2, 6-1) and Sam Barr (6-0, 6-2) all won in straight sets to earn three singles points. Matias Di Pasquale (6-4, 2-6, 7-5) and Leo Christofides (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) earned the fourth and fifth points for the Chanticleers.
Coastal hosts South Carolina State for Senior Day on Monday, April 9 at 1 p.m. Heidecker is the lone Coastal seniors.
