Georgia Tech Invitational Complete Results
CLEMSON, S.C./ATLANTA - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track and field teams concluded their regular season schedule of meets on Saturday with representation at both the Clemson Tiger Qualifier and Georgia Tech Invitational.
Clemson Tiger Qualifier
Throws
The Chants secured two top-3 finishes in the women's hammer as seniors Shantelle Patterson and Brittany Connor placed second and third, respectively. Patterson turned in her fourth-best effort of the season as she launched the implement 54.94m (180-03) down range. Connor notched her second-best distance of the season with a heave of 53.65m (176-00).
Ryan Minor capped his exceptional rookie campaign with a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw. Minor threw for 52.36m (171-09) to capture his third-best performance of the season.
Freshman Danielle England placed second with a distance of 35.78m (117-05) in the women's javelin throw, despite competing in the event at the Georgia Tech Invitational only 14 hours earlier.
Sprints/Hurdles
Freshman DeAndra Lipscomb finished third in the men's 400m-dash as he crossed the line in 49.41.
Carrington Fernandors turned in his second quickest 110m hurdles time of the season with a 14.70 to place sixth in the event finals. Shane Norris (15.00) finished seventh followed by Tre'von Gee (15.12) in eighth.
Jumps
Newcomer Aaron Noble placed third in the high jump as he matched his second-best effort of the season by clearing 1.96m (5-05.00) on his first attempt at the height.
Georgia Tech Invitational
Relays
The Chanticleer women's 4x100m relay team of Ashley Davis, Erica Peake, Gabrielle Lee and Qwontajah Thompson ran their third-best time of the season as the quartet posted a 46.77. The time was good for sixth in the first and fastest heat of the day and ninth overall.
Coastal's men's foursome of Tyler Askew, Corey Jameson, Joseph Wilson and Ronnie Jackson completed their circuit in 41.11 to place fifth in the second heat of the afternoon and 10th overall.
The women's 4x400m relay team saved the season's best performance for last as the quartet of Thompson, Peake, Santresa Jamison and Barnes finished with a season-best time of 3:42.25. The time, which placed the Chants fifth in the 13-team field, is the second fastest ever ran by a Chanticleer foursome.
Mid-Distance
Senior Christian Johnson paced four Chants in the women's 800m-run with a time of 2:16.64. Freshman Sophie Perry finished in 2:18.63 followed closely by Emily Marchini (2:18.63) and Shelby Nicosia (2:19.45).
Sprints/Hurdles
A host of Chants stepped into the starting block for both the men's and women's 200m-dash. Peake, who was named the 2012 Big South Women's Track Athlete of the Year after capturing five first-place finishes at the Big South Championship meet, turned in the most impressive performance by a Coastal woman as she placed 10th in the 50-athlete field with a 23.93. Lee finished 33rd with a 24.95 split followed by A. Davis (25.21) in 38th, Ruby Durham (25.37) and Camille Hurley (25.75).
Wilson led the way in the men's 200m race with a 21.61 to place 25th of the 55 competitors. Jameson ran a 21.75 to finish 33rd, while Jackson clocked a 21.98 followed by Stevie Brunson's 22.11 and Eric Brown's 22.58.
Jamison blazed to the finish line in 56.04 to win the fifth heat of the women's 400m-dash. Jamison's time, which placed her 14th overall, was the second quickest of her senior campaign. Freshman Sharmaine Barnes ran a 58.31 to place 26th overall.
Stevie Brunson stopped the clock in 48.88 in the men's 400m-dash to place 43rd in the stout field that featured numerous unattached individuals.
Christina Davis was the first athlete to cross the finish line in the fifth heat of the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.24. Davis' time notched her 20th overall in the 28-competitor field.
Sophomore Russel Kanner turned in a 54.33 time in the men's 400m hurdles to place fourth in his heat and 21st overall.
Throws
Cameron Griggs turned in his seventh top-10 worthy performance of the season in the men's discus. The sophomore finished with a final distance of 47.44m (155-08), which he achieved on his fifth attempt of the day.
Jumps
Big South Conference runner-up JaDarrell Barnette continued his strong sophomore campaign as he finished 10th in the triple jump. Barnette easily surpassed his previous personal-best in the event with a distance of 14.44m (47-04.50).
Reigning Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Year Kierra Gabe finished 11th in the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.93m (39-01.75).
