Postgame Quotes
Coastal Carolina head coach Joe Moglia
Opening Statement: "The first half, I couldn't have been more pleased with our guys. Offensively I felt good about our overall performance tonight. I was worried about Gardner-Webb. They have the ability to move the ball and have had one of the best defenses in the country. I thought they did the best job out of anybody we've played so far in terms of shutting down our offense."
"I thought Lorenzo did a good job. He was definitely a workhorse tonight. I thought the offense did a good job coming out in the second half. We were very sharp in the second half.
"From a special teams perspective, I felt were good across the board.Kickoff return did a good job, our kickoff team did a good job and I thought we did a great job with the punt team.
From a defensive perspective, this was without the question the best that we've played over the span of the entire game. We kept giving up some big third down plays and maybe our tackling wasn't as good as it should be, but the guys hung in there, worked hard and did a good job of getting to the ball."
"I don't think we played perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but we played good football and we beat a good football team."
Gardner-Webb head coach Carroll McCray
Opening statement: "We didn't do anything we needed to to try and win the game. Coach Moglia's got a fine team. Way too many turnovers, mental errors and penalties that were a real detriment to us. We had some opportunities and couldn't close them off. Credit goes to them. They were physical late in the ballgame. We played pretty physical early, but they got squared up with their pads and ran the football at us and we couldn't get our run game going and finish in the red zone. Just when we need some positive plays we didn't have them. Just too many mistakes, especially when you're playing really fine football team."
