CLEMSON, S.C. - Jessica Gelibert and Letitia Saayman turned in runner-up finishes to highlight the Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team's performance during Saturday's second day of the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson.
Gelibert set a new personal-best in the 400 meters, clocking a time of 56.42, besting her previous mark by .04 seconds. Her time was second only to Charlotte's T'Sheila Mungo (55.69) in the 72-runner field. She earned her fourth runner-up finish of the season.
Saayman took second in the 3,000 meters, finishing with a time of 10:18.49, behind only Morgan Richards of Charlotte.
Three other Chanticleers set new personal-bests during the day as Camille Hurley (57.99) and Christina Davis (58.29) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 400 meters and Qwontajah Thompson clocked 7.77 in a preliminary of the 60-meter dash. Ruby Durham was .01 seconds off of her personal-best of 7.74 in the same event.
Thompson also finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.46. Also for Coastal, Amirah Al-Bayyinah placed ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.65 meters (38-2.75) and Teka Simpson finished 10th in the 200 meters in 25.60.
Cameron Griggs led the Chanticleer men's team with a second-place finish in the shot put. He recorded a throw of 14.98 meters (49-1.75). Joseph Wilson took third place in the 200 meters in a time of 22.16 and also finished fifth in the 60-meter dash in 6.96. Russel Kanner finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.48) and DeAndra Lipscomb was fifth in the 400 meters (49.02). Coastal's top team in the 4x400 relay also placed fourth.
The Coastal women return to action Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Gamecock Invitational.
