Final Stats

ROCK HILL - Coastal Carolina baseball scored eight runs in the third inning and pounded out a season-high 18 hits in the game to claim a 13-2 victory at Winthrop Saturday afternoon. The Chanticleers run their win streak to eight games while improving to 23-12 overall and 9-2 in the Big South. The Eagles fall to 12-23, 2-9.

Jake Kane had three hits and scored twice while Ted Blackman and Alex Buccilli each contributed two RBI. Freshman Seth Lamando (4-1) scattered three hits and allowed one unearned run over five complete innings with three strikeouts.

Coastal scored in the first inning for the second straight game. Kane hit a one-out triple and scored two batters later on a Will Remillard's sacrifice fly to left field.

Winthrop tied the game at 1-1 in the second. Clay Altman started the home half reaching on a throwing error, which allowed him to take second base. He moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Max Vogel's RBI ground out.

Coastal regained the advantage in the third inning, sending 13 men to the plate and scoring eight times for a 9-1 lead. Kane singled and Jacob May followed with a fielder's choice, but a throwing error on the play left runners on first and second. Remillard loaded the bases with an infield single. Alex Buccilli lined a two-run double down the left field line and Justin Creel followed with a bloop single down the right field line to score Remillard. A second Winthrop error on a Colin Hering ground ball plated Buccilli. Zach Remillard walked to chase WU starter Joey Strain (3-4). New pitcher Mitchell Knox walked Oberg to force in a run and Blackman followed with an RBI single, keeping the bases loaded. A walk to Kane forced in Z. Remillard and May reached on an RBI infield single.

In the fourth, Buccilli hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a ground out and scored on Hering's sacrifice fly to center for a 10-1 CCU advantage. Coastal used back-to-back hits to start the fifth to push its lead to 11-1. Oberg ripped a double down the left field line and Blackman followed with an RBI single.

In the sixth, Coastal loaded the bases and Anthony Marks, who hit a leadoff single, scored on a double play.

Winthrop stopped an 11-0 CCU run by scoring in the bottom of the sixth. Leighton Daniels singled, moved to second on a ground out, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a Matt Lobacz ground out. However, Coastal got that run back in the top of the seventh as Luke Willis walked and eventually scored on Marks' RBI single to provide the 13-2 final.

Coastal has won all four conference series this season and will go for its second consecutive sweep Sunday in the final game of the three-game set. First pitch is set for 1 pm.
