Rock Hill, S.C. - The top-seeded Coastal Carolina men's tennis team picked up a 4-1 quarterfinal win over No. 8 UNC Asheville in the 2013 Big South Tournament on Thursday morning.
The Chanticleers (13-5) took the match's opening point against the Bulldogs (10-10) after getting wins from their Nos. 2 and 3 doubles pairs.
John Karle and Leo Christofides won a close match at No. 2, outlasting Daniel Kripack and John Schubel 9-7. Ted Nilsson and Yusuke Kusuda sealed the doubles point for Coastal by handing an 8-3 loss to Alex Croker and Brett Landau.
The No. 1 doubles match between the Coastal duo of Garik Yedigarian and Matias Di Pasquale, and the UNCA pair of Adrien Langeard and Matt Waissen, went unfinished with the Chants leading 7-4.
The Chants closed out the match by grabbing three singles points. Nilsson downed Coker in straight sets at No. 4, 6-1, 6-4, Di Pasquale cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 and freshman Hunter Whalen rounded out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Langeard picked up UNC Asheville's lone point at No. 1 after besting Christofides 6-0, 6-4.
The Nos. 2 and 3 matches, featuring Kusuda and Yedigarian, were left unfinished.
The Chanticleers move on to Friday's semifinals where they will face No. 5 Radford at 10:00am. Radford defeated Winthrop on Thursday to advance to the semifinals.
