CLINTON - Coastal Carolina hung three runs on the board in the eighth inning en route to a 5-4 comeback victory against Presbyterian College in game one of a doubleheader on a beautiful Friday afternoon in Clinton.

Coastal's three-run eighth inning overcame a 4-2 deficit and gave the Chants a one-run lead. Luke Willis' lead-off infield single to third was followed by a Jacob May bunt single back to the pitcher. Both Willis and May advanced a base on a passed ball, before Will Remillard singled through the left side to plate Willis. Ted Blackman, who was not in the initial lineup due to illness, was called upon to pinch hit for Colin Hering. Blackman did not disappoint, lifting a 2-0 pitch to right field for a game-tying sac fly. Jake Kanefollowed Blackman with the game-winning single, scoring W. Remillard from second.

Willis and W. Remillard both went 2-for-4 to co-led the Chanticleers at the plate in the game.

Coastal lit up the scoreboard at the PC Baseball Complex in the third after Nick Oberggot on base with a double down the right field line. With Willis at bat PC's Beau Dees tossed a wild pitch that went to the backstop, allowing Oberg to advance to third. However, a lackadaisical effort by the catcher gave Oberg an opening to take home, making the score 1-0

The Blue Hose countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third to knot the score at one. Billy Mortroni led off the frame with a single, but was picked off first by catcher Remillard. The pickoff proved to be costly for the Blue Hose as Jay Lizanich followed with a double to left and scored a batter later on an Aaron Preston single. Preston then stole second and scored on a Brandon Paul single to right, giving PC a 2-1 lead.

A Zach Remillardwalk and a single by PC's Ryan Hagan resulted in the only base runners by the sides over the ensuing two innings as both pitchers settled and took advantage of their defenses.

With two outs in home half of the sixth, Nathan Chong sent Ben Smith's3-2 offering over the left field wall, putting PC up 3-1

Coastal pushed one run across in the top of the seventh, cutting their deficit to 3-2. W. Remillard got things started with single that dropped into the gap in left. Three batters later Z. Remillard plated his brother with a sharp single through the left side of the infield. The Chants would end the inning with runners stranded on second and third.

PC immediately got the run back in the bottom of the inning as Preston singled home Motroni, who walked as the second batter of the frame.

Chanticleer reliever Aaron Burke (3-2) earned the win. He pitched the final two outs of the seventh inning in relief of Smith, who went 6.1 with four strikeouts. Patrick Corbett picked up his first save of the year, pitching the final two innings of play. PC's Dees (5-4) suffered the loss. He pitched 7.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned), six hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
