Final Stats

MYRTLE BEACH - Coastal Carolina junior Tyler Herb made his first appearance on the mound after a five-week absence and recorded five strikeouts in two innings. The 30th-ranked Chanticleers then scored 12 runs in the third and fourth innings to cruise to a 15-3 win over UNC Wilmington Tuesday night at TicektReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

The game was Coastal's (33-18) final home contest of the 2013 season before ending the regular season with a three-game set at Charleston Southern May 16-18 and the 15 runs scored was CCU's most this season. The Seahawks drop to 36-17.

Herb was credited with the win, improving to 5-1, as it was predetermined how many pitches he would throw. CCU was looking to get 50 pitches out of the right-hander and he threw 49 over two complete innings. He got off to a hot start, striking out the first two batters he faced. In the second inning, UNCW loaded the bases with one out before Herb struck out two batters to end the threat. He allowed two hits and walked three.

Coastal jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Luke Willis, who was 0-for-3 but scored three times, started the bottom of the first by being hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Will Remillard lined an RBI triple down the right field line. One pitch later, Remillard, who was 3-for-4 with five RBI, scored on a wild pitch.

The Chants took advantage of three UNCW errors to take an 8-0 lead in the third. Remillard led off by reaching on an error. Jake Kane and Colin Hering walked to load the bases. Zach Remillard hit into an apparent inning-ending double play, but a throwing error on the turn allowed two runs to score. Connor Owings walked and Nick Oberg followed with an RBI single. Willis walked to load the bases for Jacob May, who delivered a two-run single to right. An error on the play allowed Willis to score as well. W. Remillard capped the scoring with an RBI double to left field.

Coastal tacked on five more runs in the fourth for a 14-0 advantage. Owings drove in Kane and Hering with a two-run double and W. Remillard also provided a three-run double, plating Owings, Willis and May. Owings finished the night going 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and three walks in five total plate appearances.

The Seahawks avoided the shutout with three unearned runs in the seventh. Luis Renvil and Dillon Bass had leadoff singles. Steven Linkous reached on an error, allowing Renvil to score. Corey Dick followed with an RBI ground out and Linkous later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 14-3.

The Chanticleers got a run back in the bottom of the seventh. Tyler Chadwick singled, Justin Creel singled and Hering followed with an RBI single to provide the 15-3 final.

Aaron Burke relieved Herb and pitched the next four innings. Like Herb, Burke allowed two hits and struck out five. Brady Arenson worked the seventh and eighth innings, allowing three hits and three unearned runs with a strikeout, while Mike Morrison recorded the final three outs.

UNCW starter Nick Monroe (0-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs (two earned), two hits and three walks over 2.1 innings.
