Final Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team blanked the Citadel on Sunday afternoon, recording a 7-0 sweep over the visiting Bulldogs at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. The match was the first at home for the Chanticleers this season.

The win moves the Chants to 2-1 on the season while the Bulldogs remain winless at 0-6.

Coastal won two of three doubles tilts to take the first point of the match.

The Chants' No. 1 doubles pair of Leo Christofides and Philippe Tsangaridis defeated Elliot Sperr and Dillon Berkabile 8-3, while Renan Samed and Rick Timmerman claimed an 8-2 victory in the No. 3 slot to secure the doubles point.

The Citadel's Connor Grady and Oliver Dedding won the final doubles match at No. 2, outlasting Ted Nilsson and Jabor Al-Mutawa.

The Chants remained dominant throughout singles play, winning all six singles matches in straight sets.

Tsangaridis cruised by Sperr at No. 1, 6-0, 6-3; Nilsson downed Bleach at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4; Al-Mutawa handed a 7-5, 7-6, loss to Berkaibile in the third slot; Christofides defeated Dedding at No. 4, 6-0, 6-2; Timmerman blanked Bove at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0; and Hunter Whalen recorded a 6-1, 6-1, over Grady in the last singles spot.

"I thought we played well today," said head coach Chris Powers. "I am looking forward to the match tomorrow. South Carolina State has had our number lately so it will be a great test against a conference champion."

The Chanticleers host South Carolina State on Monday at 2 p.m. It will be the first match of the season for the South Carolina State Bulldogs.
