Chants Continue Win Streak at Charleston Southern

Charleston, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team won its fourth straight match against a Big South Conference opponent as the Chanticleers came from behind to down Charleston Southern in four sets on Friday night at the Buc Dome.

The victory improves the Chants' record to 14-4, 4-1 while the Bucs fall to 8-14, 0-5.

Coastal was led offensively by freshman Leah Hardeman, who finished with 22 kills at a .353 percentage. Hardeman completed the double-double with 17 digs, while also registering two aces and a block. Lian Bernett had 12 kills, followed by nine apiece from Katie Martin and Eszter Nagy.

Freshman Aleksandra Djuric led the Chants in assists with 32, while Sam Skryd had 17. Jenna Orner was credited with 20 digs on the back line, and Martin blocked three CSU attacks.

Led by Meredith Parrott's five kills and a team hitting percentage of .239, the Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-19 victory in the opening set. Parrot finished with 14 kills at a .344 percentage to lead the Bucs.

After putting down just three kills in the first set, Hardeman led Coastal in the second as the Chants' leading scorer found hardwood six times on 10 attempts. Bernett also had four kills in the second set as the Chants won 25-21. The teams were tied 19-19 late in the set, but two kills from Bernett and several errors from CSU helped Coastal close the set and tie the match.

The third set was also close until the Chants broke a 17-17 tie with five straight points on the serve of Hardeman. Once again Bernett provided two late kills to help Coastal win the set 25-20.

The Chants dominated the fourth set, outhitting Charleston Southern .314-.030 as Coastal won 25-14. Hardeman had nine kills and four digs, while Martin provided two blocks. The Chants held a wire-to-wire lead, jumping out to a 6-0 start and never letting the Bucs within three points for the remainder of the set.

For the match Coastal outhit Charleston Southern .229-.145. However, the Bucs had six blocks compared to the Chants' five. CSU's Cassidy Greer led all players with 37 assists, while Ashley Higginbothem recorded a match-high four blocks.

After three straight road matches, the Chants return to The HTC Center on Friday, Oct. 17 to face the Radford Highlanders for a 7 pm match. The game will be streamed for free on the Big South Network.
