Box Score Nov. 13, 2014

Final Stats

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team downed Campbell in three sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-13) on Thursday evening inside The HTC Center. It is the third consecutive three-game sweep for the Chants, who previously blanked Charleston Southern and Presbyterian.

The win gave Coastal its 21st victory in 27 matches this season, marking the first time since 2008 that the Chanticleer volleyball program has topped the 20-win plateau. More importantly, the Chants improve their Big South record to 10-3, while Campbell drops to 13-17 overall, 4-9 in the league.

Coastal was led by Leah Hardeman's 11-kill effort at a .206 clip. Eszter Nagy followed right behind with 10 kills at an impressive .400 pace. Aleksandra Djuric assumed primary setting responsibilities for the Chants, leading all players with 23 assists. Senior Sam Skryd, who started and ended the match, tallied 15.

Nagy also registered four blocks, a match-high, to go along with her offensive efforts. Jenna Orner led the Chants with 17 digs, one shy of Mary Crema's 18 for Campbell.

Alexis Hein put down 10 kills to pace the Fighting Camels, while Summer Schuitema finished with 19 assists.

The Chants came out hitting .316 in the first set, receiving five blocks from Nagy and four apiece from Hardeman and Miona Milovanovic. The score was close early, but Coastal gradually pulled away to a 13-8 lead, forcing Campbell to use its first timeout. The Camels played the Chants tighter coming out of the break, eventually bringing the scoring margin to within one. Leading 19-18, the Chants received kills from four different hitters to close out the set.

The second set proved to be tighter than the first, as there were only two lead changes and the score was tied 11 times. The teams were knotted at 18 apiece late in the set before Hardeman recorded an ace and a kill, forcing Campbell to call a timeout. Coming out of the break Campbell tied the set once again, but Orner was able to serve the Chants to the set win.

The deciding set was all Coastal, as the Chants hit .346 while holding Campbell to .032. Hardeman, Nagy, Milovanovic and Legros each had multiple kills in the set, while Nagy, Legros and Katie Martin each provided timely blocks. Coastal held the lead from start to finish as Legros recorded kills to begin and end the set.

As a team the Chants hit .309 for the match, while holding Campbell to .149. Coastal was also dominant at the net, recording eight team blocks to Campbell's two.

Third-place Coastal closes out the regular season on Saturday when it hosts High Point for an 11:30 am match. Saturday's match is also Senior Day for Coastal. The final seeding's for the 2014 Big South Volleyball Championship will also be announced on Saturday at the conclusion of all league matches.
