CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina football program, seeded seventh and ranked sixth in both national polls, will host 10th seed Richmond, ranked 16th in one poll and 18th in another, in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division I Football Championship this Saturday. Kickoff at Brooks Stadium is set for 1 pm and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Coastal Carolina had a first round bye, thanks to its 11-1 record and winning its third straight Big South Championship. Richmond hosted and defeated Morgan State, 46-24, in the first round last Saturday.
Coastal and Richmond have met on one previous occasion with the then 11th-ranked Spiders pulling away late for a 41-19 victory in 2010 at Richmond. Overall, Coastal Carolina is 3-4 when facing a team in the Colonial Athletic Association. However, all three wins have come at Brooks Stadium, including a 31-27 victory versus then #1 James Madison in 2005 and a 31-3 victory versus Elon earlier this season.
Coastal Carolina, which advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals last season, is 3-4 all-time in the NCAA postseason, including a 3-2 mark under current head coach Joe Moglia.
The winner of the Coastal-Richmond game will advance to the NCAA quarterfinals and face the winner of #2 seed North Dakota State and #18 seed South Dakota State.
