Eleven Events Won on Senior Day

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina track & field team won 11 events on Saturday afternoon as CCU hosted the Chanticleer Classic. The team also paused to honor CCU's 17 seniors prior to the track events starting.

The Chants honored JaDarrell Barnette, Stevie Brunson, Cameron Griggs, Ronnie Jackson, Russel Kanner, Chris Tillotson and Cameron Wells from the men's team. CCU also honored Naomi Atkins, Anna Carnegie, Ashley Davis, Emma Hulburd, Gabrielle Lee, Emily Marchini, Shelby Nicosia, Janel Reeves, Otessa Velasquez and Keegan Woodson.

Griggs and sophomore Ryan Minor led the way on the men's side with six top-five finishes between them. Griggs won the discus with a throw of 45.09m (147-11), finished third in the shot put with a result of 15.08m (49-05.75) and placed fifth in the hammer with a distance of 52.07m (170-10). Minor won the shot put with a toss of 15.22m (49-11.25), finished second in the discus with a throw of 43.52m (142-09) and finished third in the hammer with a result of 57.53m (188-09). Minor's shot put was a season best for the Chanticleers.

Krissy Sansbury led the way on the women's side with a pair of event victories. Sansbury won both the shot put and the hammer with a pair of season bests. Her toss of 13.55m (44-05.50) won the shot put while her throw of 52.22m (171-04) won the hammer. Sophomore Jalacy Green came in second in the shot put with a throw of 13.50m (44-03.50). Senior Naomi Atkins came in fourth with a distance of 11.84m (38-10.25).

Atkins also placed second in the hammer with a throw of 47.35m (155-04). The final top-five finisher in the hammer was freshman Cari Pallini who came in fourth with a distance of 39.88m (130-10). Pallini also finished second in the discus with a throw of 38.56m (126-06). Atkins finished fourth in the discus with a length of 38.35m (125-10).

A trio of runners picked up top five finishes in the men's 1500. Senior Cameron Wells won the event with a time of 4:01.92. Junior Ryan Beckley came in fourth with a time of 4:06.65 while junior Tyler Cummings clocked in at 4:10.14, good for fifth.

A pair of one-two finishes by the women highlighted the jumping portion of the meet. Sophomore Teka Simpson and sophomore Raven Hamilton placed first and second in the high jump while each clearing 1.60m (5-03.00) which tied a season best. Simpson won the event based on least amount of jumps. Freshman Kaila Smith came in fourth with a height of 1.50m (4-11.00).

Freshman Emma Kroger and sophomore Brianna Cristiano finished first and second, respectively, in the pole vault. Kroger tied a season best with a clear of 3.50m (11-05.75). Cristiano picked up a height of 3.20m (10-06.00) to finish second.

There was a pair of one-two finishes on the men's side as well. Sophomores Corey Hackett-Greene and Deion Wellington took gold and silver, respectively, in the 400 meters. Hackett-Greene crossed the line at 48.96 while Wellington came in at 49.76.

Sophomore Brinson Corn and freshman Nick Seabright picked up a one-two finish in the pole vault. Corn cleared a height of 4.25m (13-11.25) while Seabright came in at 4.10m (13-05.25).

The final one-two finish on the women's side came in the 1500 meters. Senior Emma Hulburd won the race with a time of 4:53.77 while senior Janel Reeves came in second at 4:55.43.

Freshman Derrick Kinloch, Jr. won the triple jump with a leap of 14.19m (46-75) while freshman Jamayel Hugee came in fourth with a distance of 12.95m (42-06.00). Kinloch, Jr. also finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.90m (6-02.75) while Hugee came in fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.28m (20-07.25).

Sophomore Stephanie Taylor-Pollock picked up a pair of top five finishes. She finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.38 while she placed third in the 100 meters while crossing the line in 12.42.

Senior Anna Carnegie came in second in the javelin with a toss of 36.81m (120-09). The final top five finisher on the women's side was sophomore LaChelsie Thomas who placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.92.

The final top five finisher on the men's side was junior Joseph Keitt who placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.16.

The Chanticleers will be back in action this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Big South Conference Championships hosted by Winthrop University.
