Final Stats

WILMINGTON, N.C. - After allowing a run to go down one in the top of the ninth, UNC Wilmington loaded the bases and Terrence Connelly came through with a two-run single to give the Seahawks (13-14) a 5-4 decision versus Coastal Carolina Wednesday evening at Brooks Field.

In the top of the ninth inning for Coastal, Nick Oberg drew a one-out walk and took second on a two-out single by Tyler Chadwick. Connor Owings followed with an RBI single to right field to put the Chanticleers (12-18) up 4-3.

In the bottom half of the frame, pinch hitter Luis Renvil hit a leadoff double and Josh Abshire followed with a single. Casey Golden hit a slow roller to third and Coastal was not able to record an out as the Seahawks loaded the bases on the fielder's choice. Facing a 2-2 count, Connelly was able to slap the ball into left field, scoring Renvil and Abshire to provide the 5-4 win.

Coastal Carolina wasted little time in the first inning to grab a lead. Owings drew a leadoff walk and went to third on double by Michael Paez. G.K. Young and Zach Remillard had back-to-back RBI ground outs for the early 2-0 lead.

The Chants added a run to their tally in the second inning without the benefit of a hit. With one out, John McNulty walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, took third on a wild pitch and, two pitched later, scored on another wild pitch.

UNCW cut into its deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Seahawks loaded the bases thanks to two singles, two fielder's choices and a walk. Golden delivered a two-run double to left field before Dalton Moats got a fly ball to limit the damage.

Coastal had a chance to pad its lead in the top of the sixth, but left the bases loaded. The Seahawks made the Chants pay by tying the game at 3-3. Ryan LaGrange and Corey Dick started the home half with walks. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up to second and third. Robbie Thornburn tied the game with an RBI ground out to shortstop. Mike Morrison limited the damage by striking out Justin Carroll to end the inning.

William Prince (1-0) was credited with the win getting the lone batter he faced out by strikeout.

Remillard continues his hot streak, getting his second career four-hit game in three contests and collecting 11 hits over his last three games. Moats had a solid outing but did not factor in the decision. The freshman pitched a career-high 5.0 innings, scattering five hits and allowing two runs. Tyler Poole (0-2) suffered the loss.

Coastal Carolina will continue its nine-game road swing with a three-game set at UNC Asheville April 4-6.
