Box Score Jan. 13, 2015

Final Stats

Charleston, S.C. - AJ Jordan and Anna Vogt each scored 20 or more points, and the Chanticleers shot their highest percentage from the field this season as the Coastal Carolina women's basketball team broke its nearly month-long slump with a 71-62 win inside Charleston Southern's Buc Dome in Tuesday night Big South action.

The win evens Coastal's overall record at 8-8, and improves its Big South record to 2-5. Charleston Southern, meanwhile, drops to 3-12 overall and remains winless in the conference at 0-7.

Vogt led all players with 21 points, topping her previous career-high of 20 set earlier this season against Barber-Scotia. The junior forward shot 8-13 from the field, and added 5-6 from the line, while grabbing five rebounds, dishing out three assists, recording three steals and rejecting two CSU shots.

Jordan had the game's second-best scoring output with 20 points, extending her streak of scoring in double figures to five games. Jordan shot 62.5 percent from the field and pulled in three boards.

Alexis Robinson checked in as the Chants' third-leading scorer with 12 points, and added 11 rebounds for her first double-double since Dec. 4 against Johnson & Wales. The sophomore forward went 4-5 from the both the field and the line.

Alecia Hardy led the Bucs in scoring with 16 points, followed by Alyssa Mann and Tatum Jarvis at 14 points apiece. Alise Karlesone was CSU's leader on the boards with seven rebounds, and rounded out the Bucs' double-digit scorers with 10 points.

Coastal's 57.4 field goal shooting percentage was the highest of the season, and included a first half where the Chants shot 63.6 percent from the floor. At the other end, Charleston Southern was limited to just 34.3 percent from the floor. The Chants out-rebounded the Bucs by a slim 36-35 margin, but dominated in the paint with 44 points to CSU's 30.

Charleston Southern held the advantage in the early going, knocking down four early 3-pointers to jump out to a 16-8 lead in the opening six-and-a-half minutes. The Chants then took control down low, and finished the first half with 22 points in the paint while out-rebounding CSU 16-13.

Jordan evened the score for the first time at 16-16 after hitting a short jumper, and, following five minutes of back-and-forth action, Alira Mihocic put the Chants ahead 25-24 with 5:35 left in the first. The momentum remained even for both sides for the remainder of the period, resulting in a 35-35 tie at the half.

Jordan's 14 points carried the Chants in the first half, but it was Vogt's 15 points in the second half that gave Coastal the edge. Vogt accounted for seven of Coastal's 16 points to start the second half, and finished the frame shooting 66.7 percent from the floor while knocking down three of four free throw attempts. Jordan had six points in the second, and gave Coastal the lead for good after hitting a jumper at the 17:31 mark.

Coastal pulled ahead by 13 points, its largest lead of the game, with just under a minute remaining, though a late field goal from Jarvis and 3-pointer from Hardy brought the final margin to just nine points.

Jordan's first field goal of the game moved her into 10th place among Coastal's all-time career points leaders. Her 20 points on the night give her 1,198 for her career, 60 short of Kim Lewis (1990-93) in ninth place.

The Chants now return to The HTC Center for a two-game stretch, hosting Winthrop on Saturday at 2 p.m. before welcoming in Campbell for a 7 p.m. tip on Jan. 20.
