Women's Tennis Defeats USC Upstate to Open New Courts

CONWAY - On the opening day of the brand new Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex, the Chanticleer women's tennis team defeated visiting USC Upstate 6-1 to pick up its first win of the season.
The Chants improve to 1-1 with the win, while the Spartans remain winless at 0-2.
"What a special day to get a win in the inaugural match on the new courts," said Chanticleer head coach Catherine Hewitt. "It is such an honor to be the first team to play at this wonderful facility. I was also extremely pleased with how the girls played today."
Coastal started the match strong with a sweep on the doubles courts.
Sara Bondar and Honami Yazawa kicked things off with a 6-1 win over Sarah Vandeberg and Nina Roell on the second court. Natalie Wall and Cari Berry then sealed the opening point by defeating Anna Zoske and Sharlee Deshmukh 6-3 at No. 3. Libby Scott and Romane Delay completed the doubles sweep at No. 1 after grinding out a 7-5 victory over Isabel Von Stryk and Nona Ruppert.
As played turned to singles, Delay gave the Chants a 2-0 match lead after winning by retirement on the third court. Bondar followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Vandebert at No. 6, and Mila Majtan capped the match for Coastal with a straight sets win against Deshmukh on the fifth court.
Berry and Yazawa also won singles matches for the Chants on the fourth and second courts, respectively.
Von Stryk won Upstate's lone point of the match, defeating Scott in three sets at No. 1
The Chants remain at their new facility to host UNC Wilmington on Monday.
