Box Score Oct. 16, 2015

Final Stats

RADFORD, Va. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven matches Friday evening as the Chanticleers recorded their third consecutive sweep (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) against the Radford Highlanders at the Dedmon Center.

Coastal remains perfect through its first six Big South matches and improves to 14-4 overall on the season. Radford, meanwhile, drops to 9-10 overall and sits at 2-4 in the conference.

To date, the Chants have surrendered just one set to a conference opponent in six matches, and have lost just two sets during their current win streak.

Eszter Nagy, the Big South's leading hitter, continued her career season with a match-leading 12 kills on 19 attempts for a .632 hitting percentage. Leah Hardeman followed with 11 kills, and Annayka Legros rounded out Coastal's double-figure hitters with 10 kills. Freshman setter Sara Boothe set a career-high recording 42 of Coastal's 46 assists.

As a team, Coastal hit .321 to Radford's .231. It was the first time in eight matches that the Chants ââ'¬" the Big South's leading defense ââ'¬" allowed an opponent to hit over .200.

Carla Cahill led all players with 14 digs, followed by the 13 of Hardeman. Nagy tallied four of Coastal's seven team blocks to lead the match.

Coastal opened the match hitting .385 as Nagy and Natasa Savovic paced the Chants with three kills apiece. The lead changed just once in the first as the Highlanders led early, but Coastal jumped ahead after seven straight serves from Lian Bernett. Radford managed to tie the game once more at 14 a side, but the Chants finished the set on an 11-5 run to take a 1-0 match lead.

The Chants' hitting dropped to .214 in the second set as the Highlanders tallied 19 team digs, including five each by Meg Bowers and Kelby Jackson. Hardeman and Nagy countered with five and four kills, respectively, to propel Coastal to a four-point set win. Coastal took the lead for good at 14-13 after an attack error from Radford's Cheyanne James.

Both sides hit over .330 in a final set that required extra points before Coastal could finish off the match. Nagy and Legros led the Chants with five kills each, while Hardeman and Savovic each tallied four. The set featured eight ties and four lead changes, the last of which saw Coastal pull ahead 25-24 after trailing by four points late. A Legros kill started the rally, and two attack errors from Radford brought the Chants within one. Savovic tallied two straight kills to put Coastal in front, and Nagy closed the match with a kill to complete the comeback.

Coastal continues its trip through Virginia on Saturday as the Chanticleers take on Liberty for a 2 p.m. match at the Vines Center.
