LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team continued its unbeaten run through the Big South on Saturday as the Chanticleers (15-4, 7-0) topped the host Liberty Flames (10-10, 5-2) in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-12) at the Vines Center.
Saturday's win extended Coastal's current winning streak to eight matches, including seven straight against conference opponents. The match also saw the Chants' fourth consecutive three-set sweep, and 11th overall for the season.
Coastal posted a team hitting percentage of .397 against the Flames, its second-highest attacking rate of the season (.455 at Presbyterian). Leading the offense was outside hitter Leah Hardeman, who tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 13 digs to go along with her .459 hitting percentage.
Eszter Nagy finished with double figure kills for the seventh time this season as the senior middle blocker found hardwood on 11 of 20 swings with just one error for a .500 hitting percentage. Natasa Savovic and Annayka Legros each accounted for nine kills.
Sara Boothe, who notched a career-high 42 assists at Radford on Friday, continued her stellar weekend with 39 assists against the Flames to average 13.5 assists per set in the pair of matches.
The Chanticleer defense totaled five team blocks ââ'¬" including three assists apiece from Nagy and Boothe ââ'¬" and 54 digs as Liberty was held to hitting .214 for the match.
Coastal held a wire-to-wire lead in the opening set as the Chants hit .375 and received six kills apiece from Hardeman and Nagy. Boothe and Nagy teamed to deliver two blocks in the set, and Savovic added six digs to lead the Chants.
The Chants led in the early going of the second set, though Liberty did manage to tie the game at 14-14 midway through. A kill by Boothe broke the tie and started a 6-2 Coastal run that forced Liberty into a timeout. Leading by four, Coastal received kills from Hardeman, Boothe and Legros, as well as two Liberty errors, to earn the final five points and finish the set.
Coastal's offense was clicking at a .447 rate in the final set as Hardeman and Savovic put down seven and six kills, respectively. Liberty was held to hitting just .061 as Hannah Weidner was the only Flame player to record multiple kills in the set. Coastal's largest run of the set came when, leading 9-3, the Chants won eight of the next 10 points to build an insurmountable 17-5 lead.
Coastal will look to extend its winning streak and remain atop the Big South as the Chants return to The HTC Center for their final four home matches of the 2015 season. Gardner-Webb serves as Coastal's first opponent in the home stand. Opening serve between the Chants and Runnin' Bulldogs is set for 7 p.m. on Oct. 23.
