CONWAY - Rachael Gregory's 17 points led the Chanticleers and marked the fourth consecutive game the graduate transfer has reached double figures as the Coastal Carolina women's basketball team rolled to an 86-45 victory over Allen University Sunday afternoon at The HTC Center.
The win is Coastal's third of the year as the Chants improve to 3-1 on the season. Allen dropped to 5-4 with the loss.
All 13 of the Chanticleers that dressed saw playing time on Sunday with 12 recording at least two points.
Coastal closed the game shooting 50.0 percent (30-60) from the field while converting 23 of 36 free throw opportunities. Allen was limited to shooting 25.8 percent (16-62) from the field and turned the ball over 22 times as the Chants were credited with nine steals and four blocks. Gregory, Kennedy Archer and Nicole Isaacs each had two takeaways while Jamie Williams led the team with three blocks. Coastal cashed in 22 points off of Allen turnovers.
Gregory came off the bench to finish 6 of 9 from the field while making five of her eight free throw attempts. Dionne Parker (11 points), Isaacs (10 points) and Alexis Robinson (10) also joined Robinson in double figures.
For the second time this season Jas Adams grabbed 10 rebounds to lead a Coastal team that doubled Allen in the category, 56-28. Gregory added eight rebounds, as did Patricia Albert.
Coastal led the game from start to finish as Isaacs, Parker and Yasmin Miller combined to score the game's first eight points. The Chants led by at least six for the entire first half, and posted their largest margin of the game with 1:36 remaining in the fourth quarter when a made free throw from Gregory put Coastal ahead by 33.
Up next the Chants head to Guaynabo, Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout over Thanksgiving break where Coastal faces two opponents it has never met before in Sacred Heart and Hofsta. The Chants play the former on Friday, Nov. 27 and the latter on Saturday, Nov. 28. Both games are scheduled start at 11 a.m. Atlantic Time, 10 a.m. Easter Standard Time.
