Nov. 9, 2015 CONWAY - Coastal Carolina quarterback Alex Ross was near perfect in leading the Chanticleers to a 46-0 victory over Gardner-Webb. As a result, the senior was named the Choice Hotels Big South Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced.
Ross completed 14-of-16 passes for 209 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The 87.5 completion percentage is a CCU single-game record and ranks second in the Big South annals. While Ross did have an interception ââ'¬" which snapped a streak of 91 consecutive passes without a pick, Ross completed his last 10 passes for 141 yards with touchdown passes of 39 (to Craig Weick) and 55 yards (to Bruce Mapp).
Ross, who ranks fifth in the FCS in passing percentage (67.6), now has 10,435 yards of total offense for his career, which is just 136 yards shy of the Big South record of 10,571 set by Charleston Southern's Collin Drafts. Ross is also second to Drafts on the Big South's all-time list for career touchdown passes as Ross has thrown 63 and Drafts 73.
Ross will be one of 18 Chanticleers that will be honored prior to the Kennesaw State game this Saturday with kickoff set for 2:00 pm. Fans are encouraged to come out approximately 40 minutes prior to kickoff to give this senior class their proper recognition.
