SPARTANBURG - Coastal Carolina led by as many as 17 points Monday evening at Wofford, but had to use nine free throws down the stretch to hang on for a 71-63 victory at the Terriers' home arena.

Coastal, which improved to 6-4 on the season, received a balanced scoring effort as four Chants finished in double-figures. Shivaughn Wiggins led the way with 14, while Badou Diagne scored 13. Michel Enanga and Tristian Curtis each chipped in 10. Curtis and Colton Ray-St Cyr each reeled in a team-high eight rebounds.

Wofford (3-6) was led offensively by Eric Garcia's 18 points. Also in double-digits for the Terriers were Fletcher Magee and Spencer Collins with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Coastal started the game hot from the floor and stayed that way throughout the first 20 minutes as the team combined to make 17-of-20 shots (85.0 %) from the field and all four at the stripe in the opening half. The Chants made 13 of their first 14 shots, including a streak of 11 straight, to establish control on the scoreboard with a 31-18 lead at the under-8 media timeout. Coastal extended its lead to as many as 17 points with just over three minutes to play before the half.

Wofford scored six of the first half's final nine points -- with four coming at the free-throw line -- sending the teams into the dressing rooms with the Chanticleer's holding a 43-29 lead.

Equally as impressive as the Chants' 14-point lead at the break was that each Chanticleer logged minutes in the first half contributed at least two points to the impressive shooting effort.

Wofford used an 18-13 run in the early going of the second half to cut CCU's lead to single digits three times. However, each time Wofford pulled within nine, Coastal would make a basket to keep the Terriers at bay.

The Terriers cut their deficit to 58-55 with 4:56 to go with an 11-2 run capped by a pair of Garcia free throws. But, this time the Chants would counter with a 6-0 run with Enanga and Ray-St Cyr scoring in the paint and Elijah Wilson making a pair at the line, giving the Chants a 64-55 lead at the 2:39 mark.

Wofford made a final push, drawing within three points at 66-63 with 1:29 to go, but Coastal would put the game away with five at the charity stripe to provide the 71-63 final score.

After is hot first half shooting, Coastal shot 33.3 percent in the second half to close the game with a 58.5 percentage (24-of-41). The Chants also controlled the boards 35-25 and outscored the Terriers 32-26 in the paint.

The Chanticleers stay on the road and travel to ACC member Wake Forest for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff on Fri., Dec. 18. Coastal and Wake Forest have met on three prior occasions with the Demon Deacons winning in 1986 and 1998, while the Chants captured a 106-104 overtime win in 1987.
