CONWAY - Jaylen Shaw sank a difficult 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds to play, lifting Coastal Carolina to 68-65 win over Alabama State on Sunday afternoon inside the HTC Center.

Shivaughn Wiggins and Elijah Wilson each scored 13 to lead the Chanticleers (7-5). Joining the duo in double-figures was Ron Trapps and Badou Diagne with 11 each, while Shaw finished with nine. Diagne and Tristian Curtis, who made 4-of-5 shots for 8 points, each recorded a game-high eight rebounds.

Alabama State (4-6) was paced offensively by Steve Rogers' 14 points on a trio of 3-pointers and a 5-for-5 effort at the line. Corvon Butler scored 13 and Jamel Waters added 11 for the Hornets.

The opening minutes played at a furious pace as both Alabama State and Coastal Carolina come out of the gate firing and making shots. Through 10 minutes the teams combined to make 14 shots as Coastal led 19-17. The Hornets then reeled off a 7-0 run, then both team's shooting then went cold with neither scoring for the next several minutes until Trapps scored a bucket in the paint at the 6:59 mark to break CCU's five minute scoring drought.

Coastal outscored its visitor 10-9 throughout the remainder of the half, cutting its deficit to 35-31 entering the locker room.

The Chants quickly erased their halftime deficit with Diagne scoring on Coastal's first two possessions of the half to knot the game at 35. CCU continued to outscore the Hornets over the ensuing nine minutes as Wiggins completed a 20-12 run with a 3-point play, giving Coastal a 55-47 lead with 10:29 showing on the clock.

Alabama State responded with an 11-2 run that consumed two minutes off the game clock to take a 58-57 lead. The Hornets' run was aided by six free throws as the Chants fouled two players shooting threes. Coastal regained the lead at 59-58 after both Wilson and Wiggins split a pair at the free-throw line.

The teams traded three leads over the next 3:42 with Diagne staking the Chants a 65-64 advantage with a free throw at the 1:23 mark. A defensive stop later afforded Coastal a look to ice the game, but Elijah Wilson's free-throw line jumper was too strong and Alabama State came away with the rebound. A Diagne foul sent Alabama State's Torloft Thomas to the line where he would split the pair and tie the game to set up Shaw's heroics

Coastal closed the game shooting 41.7 percent from the field, while also controlling the boards 39-37. The Chanticleers also used their veteran frontcourt to outscore the Hornets 32-14 in the paint.

Coastal breaks for the Christmas holiday before rounding out 2015 with a Big South Conference game at Gardner-Webb on Dec. 31. Tipoff at the Runnin' Bulldogs' Paul Porter Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be viewed live on the Big South Network.
