Coastal Opens Season with 15-4 Victory at Stetson

DeLand, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team opened its season in impressive fashion as it defeated Stetson by a score of 15-4 at the Stetson Athletic Training Center on Saturday afternoon.

It didn't take long for Coastal to get on the scoreboard as senior midfielder Lily Yednock scored on an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the game. From that point on, the Chants scored seven more goals before Stetson was able to put one into the back of the net and took an 11-1 lead into the half, outshooting the Hatters 21-3 in the first 30 minutes.

Stetson came out firing the in the second half as they scored three consecutive goals and cut the lead to 11-4 with 14:50 to play, but Coastal was able to halt the Hatters' second-half surge as they scored the game's last four goals to make it the 15-4 final.

Senior attack Jen Cosgrove, who missed all but five games last season with a knee injury, led the Chants in scoring with a career high four goals and one assist. Yednock finished the game with four points on two goals and two assists, while Charlotte O'Leary added a hat trick and Alicia Geiter and Sara Nolan each added three points on two goals and one assist.

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Stover got the nod in the net and allowed only four goals to go along with seven saves, two shy of her career high. Junior defender Kaitlyn Trodden tied a career high with five ground balls and led the Chants in the category.

Stetson was paced by Jill Chiachetti, who scored two goals on four shots, while Lindsay Summers and Taylor Patrizi also contributed goals for the Hatters.

With Saturday's win, Coastal improves to 2-0 all-time against Stetson and has outscored the Hatters 30-9 in the two contests. The Chants are now 6-1 all-time against Atlantic Sun opponents.

Coastal will return to Conway for the home opener against Virginia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 22 scheduled for 1 p.m. at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
