CONWAY - Chase Adkins pitched seven scoreless innings with one walk and a career-high six strikeouts to lead Coastal Carolina to a 12-0 win over Albany in the nightcap of Saturday's Caravelle Resort's Baseball at the Beach at CCU's Springs Brooks Stadium.
Coastal improved to 4-2, beating #28 Georgia Tech (7-5) earlier Saturday, while Albany, which defeated North Carolina State (9-6) Saturday morning, falls to 1-1.
Adkins' twin, Chad, worked the final two innings to complete the Chanticleers' second shutout of the season, allowing one hit and striking out three.
Connor Owings paced CCU's offense with two hits and two RBI, while Michael Paez scored three times.
Coastal jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Paez walked and Anthony Marks followed with an infield single. Owings walked to load the bases. Zach Remillard hit a ground ball to third, but a throwing error home allowed Paez to score. Tyler Chadwick followed with a sacrifice fly to center to plate Marks.
The Chanticleers added two runs in the second inning. Paez reached on a fielder's choice and Marks walked. The duo stole third and second, respectively. G.K. Young brought home Paez with an infield single and Marks scored from second due to an Albany throwing error.
Coastal took advantage of a balk in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. David Parrett singled, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on the balk.
The Chanticleers scored two in the sixth and five in the seventh to push their advantage to 12-0. Owings hit a two-run single in the sixth. With the bases loaded in the seventh, Matt Beaird reached on a RBI fielder's choice. Josh Crump followed with an RBI walk. Seth Lancaster also delivered an RBI on a fielder's choice. Marks plated Beaird on a sacrifice fly and Al Molina capped the scoring with an RBI double.
Coastal Carolina will wrap up Caravelle Resort's Baseball at the Beach by hosting North Carolina State at 2 pm. Albany and Georgia Tech will take the field first Sunday with their first pitch set for 10 am.
