Coastal Downs Campbell in Big South Opener

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team started off its 2015 Big South Conference schedule with a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Campbell on Friday afternoon at The Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
The win is a step closer to .500 for the Chants, who sit at 3-4 overall. The Fighting Camels, also competing in their first conference match of the season, fall further back to 2-5 overall.
Campbell jumped ahead in the early going after grabbing the doubles point with wins on the first and third courts, but the Chants stormed back in singles play by grabbing the next three points.
Cari Berry started it off with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Ewa Telenga. Libby Scott then gave the Chants their second point by defeating Tamara Stanic 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, and Honami Yazawa gave Coastal a 3-1 lead after taking a decisive 6-1 third set over Georgina Segarra at No. 2.
Karangozishvili cut the Chants' lead back to one after besting Sara Bondar in a tight three-set match on the third court, but Romane Delay put the match away for Coastal with a three-set rally at No. 4.
"The girls supported each other today extremely well," said coach Catherine Hewitt after the win. "They fought back after facing adversity and showed a lot of heart to pull out this win."
With this early Big South decision in the books, the Chants dip back into non-conference play for their next two matches beginning with Furman at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex. A free cookout will take place during the match as part of Coastal's open house event. All fans are invited to join.
