MYRTLE BEACH - The Chanticleers enjoyed another successful day on the track as they registered 22 top-10 finishers, including five winners, in Saturday's events at the CCU Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Coastal Carolina took home the team title in the women's 4x100-meter relay as Kelila Naules, Stephanie Taylor-Pollock, Teka Simpson and Symphony Thompson ran a 46.81-second race, while also taking home individual titles in the women's 100-meter hurdles (Christina Davis - 14.23 seconds), men's 110-meter hurdles (Desmond Wallace - 14.65 seconds), men's seeded high jump (Reggie Nelson - 2.08 meters, 6'9.75") and men's triple jump (Derrick Kinloch, Jr. - 14.16 meters, 46'5.50").
The Chants most impressive performances of the day came in the men's and women's hurdles as Carrington Fernandors (15.04 seconds) and Camille Hurley (14.41 seconds) each finished second in the men's and women's races, respectively, behind teammates Wallace and Davis.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Charles Bascom, Jerome Coaxum, Kahlim Denmark and Theirus Styles also finished second in their respective event after posting a time of 3:17.53.
Coastal Carolina also placed multiple top-10 finishers in the men's 100-meter dash as Stlyes and Denmark posted times of 10.68 seconds and 10.91 seconds to finished fourth and seventh, respectively, while DeAndra Lipscomb, Deion Wellington and Jerome Coaxum finished sixth, eighth and ninth in the 200-meter dash with times of 21.86 seconds, 21.97 seconds and 22.21 seconds. Additionally, Mark Stembridge followed Kinloch's win in the triple jump with a fourth-place finish (13.47 meters, 44'2.50"), while Christal Green and Hurley placed third and sixth in the women's 200-meter dash with times of 24.94 seconds and 25.26 seconds, respectively.
The remainder of Coastal's top-10 finishers in their respective field events included Ryan Minor, who finished eighth in the men's discus (41.38 meters, 135'9"), Zach Bolton, who finished sixth in the men's shot put (13.87 meters, 45'6.25") and Brandon Richardson, who finished tied for fourth in the unseeded men's high jump (1.78 meters, 5'10").
Lastly, in the women's track events, Alesia Muklebust finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:00.18 while Ruby Durham crossed eighth in the 100-meter dash after running a 12.22-second race and Takeyra Jenkins-Dodd placed ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.73 seconds.
The Chanticleers will return to Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium next weekend as they host the second of their two spring break events in the Shamrock Invitational. The competition will being on Thursday, March 19 and conclude on Saturday, March 21.
