GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team secured its third consecutive win after defeating Furman University by a final score of 13-8 inside Paladin Stadium on Friday evening.
Thanks to another strong second-half performance, the Chanticleers were able to build upon a 6-5 halftime lead as they outscored the Paladins 8-3 in the second half. The team's performance comes on the heels of outscoring Cincinnati 7-3 in the final 30 minutes of last Sunday's come-from-behind win.
Senior attack Jen Cosgrove turned in arguably her best performance as a Chanticleer as she totaled six points on a career-high five goals and one assist. The Stevensville, Md., native also recorded three ground balls and one draw control while causing three turnovers. Additionally, junior attack Keri White and sophomore midfielder Alicia Geiter each recorded hat tricks, their second and first of the season, respectively.
Coastal was able to jump out to a comfortable 6-1 lead in the game's first 12 minutes before seeing it all but disappear as the Paladins came storming back to score four consecutive goals and cut the lead to one by intermission. However, much like the first half, the Chants flew out of the gates in the final 30 minutes as they scored five straight goals and extended their lead to 11-5. The six-goal cushion proved to be enough for Coastal to secure the win.
With the win, Coastal improved to 4-3 on the season. Conversely, Furman fell to 5-3. The Chants' current three-game winning streak not only follows a three-game losing streak after winning the season opener, but is also the program's longest winning streak in its three-year history.
Coastal will remain on the road as they travel to Kennesaw State to take on the Owls on Sunday at 1 p.m.
