
Women's Tennis Cruises Past Western Carolina

Hilton Head, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team defeated its opponent by at least five points for the fourth time this season, dispatching Western Carolina 6-1 on Monday in a neutral-site match.
The win improves the Chants' record to 6-4 with three non-conference matches still remaining on the schedule. Western Carolina, meanwhile, drops to 2-5 overall.
Coastal opened the match with wins on the first and second doubles court to break out to a 1-0 lead.
Libby Scott and Marie Babayan struck first, defeating Nicole Nielly and Erin Maguire 8-3 at No. 2. Sara Bondar and Honami Yazawa then sealed the point for the Chants with an 8-4 victory over Shannon Bettiol and Megan McLindon on the first court.
The No. 3 match went uncontested.
Mila Majtan started out the singles round defeating Montse Mesalles 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and Yazawa put the Chants up 3-0 after winning a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 2 over Bettiol.
Babayan sealed the win for the Chants at No. 4 where she topped Maguire 6-2, 6-0.
Bondar also recorded a point for the Chants at No. 3, and McLindon earned the Catamounts' lone point at No. 1 after defeating Scott.
The No. 6 singles match went uncontested with Cari Berry earning the point.
Next up for the Chants is a trip through Georgia, as Coastal heads to Savannah State for a 10 p.m. match on Tuesday before visiting Georgia Southern for a 2 p.m. tilt on Wednesday.
