Asheville, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team was denied its third Big South Conference tournament championship on Saturday as No. 1 Charleston Southern claimed the title with a 4-0 victory over the second-seeded Chanticleers.
With the loss Coastal closes the 2015 season with a 16-6 overall record. Charleston Southern, meanwhile, improves to 18-2 on the season and will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship in Waco, Texas.
Charleston Southern opened the scoring in doubles with wins on the second and third courts to take the opening point.
Marketa Placha and Sophie Cloessner struck first with an 8-0 blanking of Coastal's Cari Berry and Romane Delay on the third court. The doubles point was sealed for the Bucs on the second court as Sara Bondar and Marie Babayan fell 8-6 to CSU's Nicolin Luecke and Yvonne Hubler.
Angelica Sidorenko claimed the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Yazawa on the third court. Hubler finished next at No. 2, downing Delay 6-2, 6-0. Placha then closed out the match at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Scott, who fell to her first Big South opponent all season.
The Chanticleers shared the 2015 Big South regular season title with the Buccaneers as each team finished with just one loss in nine conference matches.
