Final Stats

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - G.K. Young accounted for six runs to lead 27th-ranked and second seed Coastal Carolina (36-18) to a 10-0 victory versus seventh seed Charleston Southern (23-29) Tuesday morning in the opening game of the 2015 Big South Championship, played at Gardner-Webb's Henry H. Moss Stadium and presented by Hardee's and Enterprise Rent A Car.

The Chanticleers will now face the winner of Winthrop and Campbell on Wednesday at 4:30 pm.

Young was 3-for-4 with a career-high five RBI, two runs scored, a double and two-run home run. Overall, Coastal pounded out 15 hits, thanks to two each from Michael Paez and Casey Schroeder.

While CCU's offense was rolling, Chanticleer freshman pitcher Shane Sawczak (4-4) held the Buccaneers to just one hit over seven scoreless innings. He did not allow a walk and struck out two. Over his last five outings, Sawczak is 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA. Overall, the Bucs only managed two hits as Tom Durkin pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game.

Coastal Carolina was aggressive from the start and sent eight men to the plate to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Anthony Marks and Paez started the home half with bunt singles. The duo each moved up 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt by Connor Owings and scored on a single by Young. After a ground out and hit-and-run single from Schroeder, Tyler Chadwick plated Zach Remillard with a single to centerfield.

In the fourth, Seth Lancaster hit a leadoff single and moved to third on a hit-and-run single by Josh Crump. Marks drove in Lancaster with a safety squeeze bunt for a 4-0 Chanticleer lead.

Coastal pushed its advantage to 7-0 in the sixth thanks to an RBI double from Owings and a two-run home run by Young, his eighth blast of the season.

Marks ended the top of the seventh with an impressive over-the-shoulder, sliding catch on the warning track. That would be the final batter Sawczak faced to give him a one-hitter through seven innings.

The Chants then started the bottom of the seventh with a single from Schroeder. Chadwick followed with a single to moved Schroeder to third. Lancaster plated Schroeder with a sacrifice fly for an 8-0 advantage.

Young played a key role in the 10-0 final as CCU scored twice in the eighth. After Paez walked, Young hit an RBI double down the right field line. Young scored one batter later on an RBI single from Jack Curtis.

Evan Raynor (4-5) took the loss, allowing nine hits and four runs in four innings pitched.
