CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University student-athletes recently returned to Pee Dee Elementary to once again deliver school supplies donated by the Coastal Carolina athletic department as part of its annual SAAC School Supply Drive.
SACC president
Ellie Taylor and Secretary
Ashley Lynch of the women's soccer team along with
Letitia Saayman (W. XC),
Emma Kroger (W. T&F),
Rachel Byrd (W. XC/T&F) and
Marissa Hinchman (W. Golf) delivered the items to the school and spent time in numerous classrooms interacting with many of the students.
All of Coastal Carolina's athletic teams participated in the drive donating all different kinds of school supplies. The items included crayons, pencils, pens, paper, erasers and backpacks.
The donation marked the sixth consecutive School Supply Drive that has assisted Pee Dee Elementary School, a Title I school in Horry County that services approximately 800 students.
Title I is the largest federal assistance program for the nation's schools. The goal of Title I is to provide a high-quality education for every child. The program provides extra help to students who are furthest from meeting the standards the state has set for all children. Title I serves children through school wide programs and targeted assistance programs. The programs generally offer smaller classes, additional teachers and assistants, training for staff, extra time for instruction, and mentoring.
