Coastal Falls in Season Opener at #28 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team opened the 2016 season on Saturday with a 7-0 loss at #28 South Carolina.
The match was moved up an hour to a 2 p.m. start after the morning match between the Gamecocks and College of Charleston was canceled.
South Carolina opened the scoring after winning on two of three doubles courts.
Ingrid Martins and Caroline Dailey posted a 6-1 win over Libby Scott and Sara Bondar on the top court before South Carolina's No. 2 pairing of Rachael Rohrabacker and Megan Cochrain sealed the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Natalie Wall and Cari Berry.
The No. 3 doubles match was suspended.
South Carolina, which featured two ranked singles players, then swept the singles round to close the match. Each singles point was decided in straight sets.
"Top to bottom I think we competed really well today," said coach Catherine Hewitt. "I am very encouraged by what I saw."
Coastal will remain on the road for its next match at UNC Wilmington on Jan. 28. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
