
Men's Golf Shows Improvement in Round Two at ETSU

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team shaved 11 stokes off its first round score, shooting a 5-under par 283, to move up to 12th place with a two-day total of 579 after 36 holes at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, played at the par 72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club at the The Ridges.
Virginia, ranked 17th nationally, shot an impressive 19-under par on Saturday and leads the 15-team field with a score of 549. Missouri, ranked 24th, is second (560), followed by host East Tennessee State (563), #17 Kent State (564) and day one leader UNC Wilmington (565).
Thadd Obecny II rocketed 20 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 27th with a 69 in the second round with a two-day score of 143 (74-69). The junior had six birdies and three bogeys for his 3-under 69.
Luis Ruiz is also tied for 27th, moving up seven spots on Saturday. The sophomore had five birdies versus three bogeys to shoot a second-round 70, after carding a 73 Friday, and had a 36-hole score of 143.
Alfredo Ruiz posted a 73 for the second straight day and is tied for 47th with a score of 146. Ryan Carpenter jumped seven places into a tie for 54th after turning in an even par 72 Saturday and has a two-round score of 147 (75-72).
States Fort is tied for 79th (78-78=156) while Olle Widegren, playing as an individual, is tied for 58. The senior shot 70 Friday and a 76 Saturday for a score of 146.
The event will conclude with 18 final holes Sunday.
