CONWAY - CCU Game Notes
Coming off another 20+ win season, the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers are ready to open up the 2016-17 season and will do so on the road at Southeastern Conference member Alabama.
The Chants and Tide have met one other time on the hard court and that was back in 2011 in the opening round of the 2011 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The game was played in Tuscaloosa and Alabama came out on top 68-44.
The Chanticleers go into the game with two starters returning off last year's team and have added six talented newcomers to the roster. Elijah Wilson returns for his senior campaign and enters the year tenth on the CCU all-time scoring list with 1,375 points. He led the team last season averaging 13.7 points per game.
Jaylen Shaw also reached a double-digit average last season averaging over 11 points per game and was also the team leader in assists with 129.
Colton Ray-St Cyr averaged 8.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season while starting 12 contests.
He is a probable starter in Friday's match up with Alabama along with another returner Josh Coleman.
Other returning players for the Chants include Kevin Holmes, Christian Adams, Josh Peterson and Michel Enanga.
The talented newcomers, a few who will see a lot of action in their first game with the Chanticleers, include Jaylan Robertson, Artur Labinowicz, Joseph Williams-Powell, Josh Peterson, Amidou Bamba and Demario Beck.
The Crimson Tide will return two starters and eight letterwinners from last year's squad that made it to the NIT. Senior Shannon Hale returns as the Tide's leading scorer averaging 10.8 points per game last season.
Riley Norris will also find his way back onto the court after starting 19 games last season averaging 7.5 points per outing.
The game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. (9 ET) and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.
