
Coastal Picks Up First Win over Coppin State

Conway - Five Coastal Carolina players reached double digits as Coastal Carolina defeated Coppin State 89-59 in picking up their first win of the young season.
Elijah Wilson scored a team-high 18 points, but had plenty of scoring help as Joseph Williams-Powell and Jaylen Shaw added 13.
Newcomer Demario Beck had 12 points and freshman Amidou Bamba had the first double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
CCU (1-2) won the rebounding battle 59-38 while holding the Eagles (0-3) to 27 percent shooting. Coastal shot 46 percent from the field and knocked down their free throws shooting 25 and making 20 (80%).
Coastal led by as many as 41 points (84-43) with just under eight minutes to play.
Tre Thomas came off the bench to lead the visitors with a game-high 23 points. He hit six of his 14 three point attempts. Isais Hicks was the leading rebounder for Coppin with 10 rebounds.
Each player saw action in the game with nine of the players scoring and having career-nights. Joseph Williams-Powell set his career high as did Bamba. Artur Labinowicz scored his career-high with seven points and Beck's 12 points was his career-best.
Coastal came out hot in the opening half shooting over 57 percent the first 12 minutes of the game in building a 39-13 lead.
After that the visitors picked up the scoring pace and outscored CCU 16-10 to cut the halftime lead to 49-29 by halftime.
Wilson had 15 points to lead the Chants and Beck came off the bench to score nine. CCU shot 44.4 percent the opening 20 minutes and held the visitors to 32 percent.
Thomas had 10 points to lead Coppin who hit six three point field goals in the first half to score 18 of their 29 points from long range.
The Chants will hit the road for a seven-day, three game road trip which begins with a Nov. 19 game at Brigham Young University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
