UNCG Pulls Away From Chanticleers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered its second loss of the day versus UNC Greensboro 16-1 in five innings, Friday afternoon.

Freshman Ashley Guillette made her debut as a Chanticleer against UNCG striking out her first two batters to start off the day. With the bases loaded UNCG's Stephanie Bryden hit a homerun to left field taking the lead 4-0 in the top of the first.

In the top of the second, Mackenzie Conrad took over the circle for the Chants with bases loaded for UNCG. Conrad was unable to stop UNCG's momentum allowing six runs and three hits for a 10-0 deficit. Continuing through the second, Coastal was unable to find its groove.

Another CCU freshman pitcher made her debut today for the Chants, as Taylor Rahach took over in the top of the third. Rahach was put to the test as UNCG continued to apply pressure. At the end of the inning UNCG led 16-0.

Taty Forbes had the first hit of the game for the Chanticleers in the bottom of the fourth singling to get on base. After Morgan Noad struck out, Forbes advance to second base on a passed ball getting CCU in scoring position. Next up at bat was Kelsey Dominik who hit a single advancing Forbes to third base. Conrad struck out swinging for the second out but Coastal was not done yet.

Kailey Mellen hit a single advance Dominik to give the Chants load bases. Chelsea D'Avilar was next up to bat for the Chants, and singled to drive in a run. At the end of the fourth inning Coastal had one run, four hits and left three on base.

With the momentum from Coastals previous inning, its defense was strong for the 1-2-3 outs. Ashley Guillette suffered her first loss of the season allowing two hits and six runs.

The Chanticleers will return to action tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 13, taking on the Kansas Jayhawks at 10 a.m.
