Box Score Feb. 13, 2016

Final Stats

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Coastal Carolina (8-15, 3-11) remained nearly neck-and-neck with Winthrop (4-19, 3-11) through three quarters of play on Saturday at the Winthrop Coliseum, but was outscored 14-7 in the fourth as the Eagles pulled away for a 52-43 win.

The fourth quarter began with Winthrop holding a slim 38-36 lead after the first quarter ended in a tie and the Eagles outscored the Chants by a single point in both the second and third quarters.

Coastal shot just 2-of-14 from the floor over the final 10 minutes of play, and Winthrop's Aliyah Kilpatrick recorded eight of her game-leading 21 points in the fourth quarter to power the Eagle's late push.

The game featured seven lead changes, and neither team led by more than seven points through the first three quarters of play.

The two sides were nearly identical in almost every category, with each team hitting 18 shots from the floor, Winthrop holding a slight edge in field goal percentage (32.1-30.5) and Coastal finishing with a two-rebound lead over the Eagles (45-43). The biggest difference was at the free throw line, as Winthrop made 11-of-24 shots from the stripe compared to 3-of-8 for Coastal.

Nicole Isaacs led the Chants on the scoreboard with 12 points, her third straight game in double figures and fourth time in Coastal's last five outings.

Ced Gibson followed with nine points while leading all players with four steals and tying for the game lead with four assists.

Yasmin Miller led Coastal on the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds for the second consecutive game.

Kilpatrick shot 7-of-18 from the floor and led Winthrop at the line hitting six of her eight attempts. Kilpatrick also tied Gibson for the game-lead in assists with four. CiiCii Buford led the Eagles' 3-point shooting, making half of her six attempts from the beyond the arc and finishing 4-of-10 overall. Ronata Rogers led all players with 12 rebounds.

The teams entered the second quarter all square as Dionne Parker scored six points for the Chants and Kilpatrick drained seven for the Eagles, leading to an 11-11 stalemate at the end of one.

The score remained tight throughout the second quarter as Winthrop outscored the Chants by a point, giving the Eagles a slim 23-22 advantage at halftime. Coastal threatened to pull away early in the second after opening the quarter with back-to-back threes from Adams and Gibson, but suffered an 0-of-6 stretch from the field that allowed Winthrop to overtake the lead going into the media timeout. The sides then traded baskets for the remainder of the half.

Winthrop tallied the first six points of the third quarter before Gibson and Stephanie Isaacs combined to score eight points on alternating baskets to bring the margin back within one possession.

Up next, Coastal will look to sweep the season series against Charleston Southern when the Chants return to The HTC Center to host the Bucs for a 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
