Coastal Falls to College of Charleston, 6-1

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team suffered its first home loss of the season on Tuesday as the Chanticleers fell 6-1 to visiting College of Charleston.
Coastal's second consecutive loss drops the Chants to 4-3 overall, while C of C evens its record at 3-3. It is the first time this season that the Chants have suffered back-to-back losses.
"C of C was the more consistent team," said Catherine Hewitt. "Several weaknesses were exposed and we look to get back out at practice this week before our next match and work on them"
The Cougars grabbed the double point with wins on the first and second courts.
Coastal's No. 3 paring of Marie Babayan and Romane Delay struck first, toppling Sarah Jane Jones and Sarah Zchunke 6-2. But Charleston's second pairing of Katherine Schofield and Mara Argyriou evened the point before the No. 1 duo of Liza Fieldsend and Rachel McNeely clinched.
Charleston then sealed the match after picking up singles points on the top three courts with wins from Fieldsend (No. 1), Brokke McAmis (No. 3) and Schofield (No. 2).
Babayan was Coastal's lone singles winner, besting McNeely in three sets at No. 4.
The Chanticleers remain at home to host Wofford on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
