Coastal Takes A Split Decision on Friday

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team took a split decision on Friday as it defeated Appalachian State 5-0 then falling to Seton Hall 9-7.

The Chanticleers are now 1-6 on the season grabbing their first win versus Appalachian State in Coastals first game of the day. Both teams went scoreless until the third inning when the Chants took the lead 2-0 in the bottom of the third. Morgan Noad hit a RBI single as Taty Forbes scored followed later on by another RBI single by Mackenzie Conrad bringing in Noad.

Bottom of the fourth the Chants scored two more taking the lead 4-0 over the Mountaineers. Alexis Alvino hit a double putting CCU in scoring position. Bri Chiusano popped one up for the first out but Taty Forbes followed her with a RBI double allowing Alvino to score. Later on in the inning, Forbes was stole third and was then batted in by Kelsey Dominik.

Appalachian State held the Chants off in the fifth but tallied one more run in the bottom of the sixth for the 5-0 lead. Chiusano singled to left field then stole second on the next pitch. Forbes singled for Chiusano to score adding a run but with the bases load, Coastal couldn't create any more offense after Conrad fouled out.

Pitcher Kelsey Dominik allowed one hit to start the seventh but held off the Chants striking out two and had assistance from the field with a pop-out.

Within 30 minutes, Coastal was back on the field taking on Seton Hall.

Both teams wasted no time getting runs on the board going 5-3 in the first inning. Seton Hall had two runners on base as Lauren Fischer hit a homerun to right field take the lead 3-0 in the top. But Coastal answered back with five runs to take the lead. Taty Forbes singled to left field to get the Chants juices flowing, then Noad hits a homerun to center field driving in Forbes for the first two runs. Coastal had a chance to make it bases loaded by Dominik was called out on a fielder's choice. Next up to bat was Toro who hit a homer over left center driving in two runs to make it 5-0.

Seton Hall answered back with two runs in the top of the second to tie it up 5-5. The two teams went back-to-back scoreless innings in the third and fourth.

In the top of the fifth, Seton Hall scored off a fielder's choice taking a one run lead. Then Coastal took back the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Forbes singled, then was followed by Noads homer to center field, Noad's second homerun of the day.

A scoreless sixth inning moved us into the seventh when Seton Hall was put under some pressure. The Pirates were able to get a two-run triple followed by a RBI single to take the lead 9-7 over the Chants.

Coastal was unable to convert offensively ending the game with a loss.
