CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win Friday afternoon, surrendering just one singles point to visiting South Carolina State at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.

The victory is Coastal's second in as many matches, and improves the Chants to 3-1 overall for the season.

"This was a good win for the team," said Chris Powers. "SC State was conference champions last year so we knew we had to be ready and we were. I can't wait to get back on the practice court next week and build on this performance today."

Coastal opened the scoring on the doubles court, winning on courts two and three to take the first point.

Rick Timmerman and Vuk Velickovic started things off with a 6-0 blanking of Jakub Vitek and Jan Brenk on No. 2. Pedro Leme and Luiz Faria followed on court three with a 6-2 win over Edgar Diaz and Stanislav Baco to clinch the doubles point.

Martin Figura and Soufiane Mouline topped Jabor Al-Mutawa and Sebastian Schneider on the top court, 6-2.

Velickovic (No. 1), Al-Mutawa (No. 2) and Migliano (No. 6) opened singles with straight-sets wins to put Coastal ahead 4-0 and seal the match.

Timmerman added a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4, and Leme closed Coastal's scoring on the third singles court with a three-set win over Vladyslav Yanchenko.

South Carolina State's lone point came on court four where Vitek bested Schneider in straight sets.

Coastal has a week's break before its next match, and will remain at home to host Charlotte on Feb. 12. Opening serve is set for 2 p.m.
