Coastal Ends Skid With 79-53 Win Over High Point

Box Score Feb. 9, 2016

Final Stats

CONWAY - Ced Gibson matched her career high in points with 24 and Yasmin Miller recorded the first Chanticleer double-double of the season as Coastal Carolina (8-14, 3-10) knocked off fifth-place High Point (8-14, 7-6) 79-53 Tuesday night at The HTC Center. The win snaps Coastal's five-game losing streak that started on Jan. 19.

Gibson's 24 came on 9-of-16 from the field, her second-most makes of the season behind the 10 made field goals against Campbell on Dec. 1, the game in which she set her career-best point total. The junior guard added five points from the line and recorded game-highs in both assists (six) and steals (three).

Miller came off the bench to record Coastal's first double-double of the season as the junior forward led all players with 11 rebounds and reached the same number in points. Miller made just two shots from the field, but was nearly perfect from the line as she converted all but one of her eight free throw attempts.

Jas Adams was perfect from the line, knocking down all eight of her attempts to record the Chants' highest free throw percentage of the season and tie Miller for the most free throw makes in game, which the junior set at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 2. Adams added one basket from the field to bring her night's total to 10 points.

Nicole Isaacs led Coastal's long-range shooting efforts with a trio of 3-pointers while finishing 5-of-10 overall and 3-of-4 from the line to place second on the team in scoring with 16 points.

The Chants turned in their best free throw performance of the season, finishing 26-of-32 (81.3 percent) from the line as High Point was whistled 30 times and had two players foul out.

The Chants' stellar shooting was not limited to the line, however, as Coastal's 47.1 field goal percentage marked its second-highest against a Big South opponent this season, following the 47.3 percent at Charleston Southern on Jan. 16.

Coastal led for 26:57 of the game, including the final 3:26 of the first half and the entirety of the second. The Chants' 37 points over the first two quarters mark the highest first-half total against a conference opponent this season.

The Chanticleer defense limited High Point to shooting 31.6 percent from the field with 18 made baskets. Only one Panther surpassed seven points as Kaylah Keys -- the Big South's third-leading scorer -- led HPU with 21 points on 7-of-16 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line.

High Point held a 16-13 lead after the first quarter but surrendered it quickly as the Chants went off for 24 points in the second. HPU's last lead came with 5:39 left before halftime, and was erased after Miller hit pair of free throws. The Panthers managed to tie the game for the sixth and final time nearly two minutes later at 26 apiece, but a 3-pointer from Isaacs gave Coastal the lead for good.

The Chants shot 52.4 percent from the field and went 19-of-24 from the line in the second half as they widened the lead. Coastal's largest lead of the night, 27 points, came 29 seconds prior to the final buzzer.

The Chanticleers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to face Winthrop for the first time this season. The Eagles currently occupy last place in the Big South as two of their three wins this year have come against conference opponents.
