CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team blanked South Carolina State 7-0 in a neutral-site match played in Charleston, S.C., Thursday afternoon.
Coastal improves to 9-4 overall with the nonconference win while extending its season-long winning streak to five matches.
The Chants dominated from the start, winning on all three doubles courts to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
Natalie Wall and Cari Berry started off the match by cruising to a 6-0 win over SC State's No. 2 pairing of Filippoya/Petreanu. The Chants' top pairing of Libby Scott and Sara Bondar, and third pairing of Romane Delay and Brooke Campbell finished off doubles with identical 6-2 victories.
The Chants then proceeded to take all but one of the singles courts in straight sets. Scott won by retirement at No. 1, though the senior was leading 6-2, 6-0 when the match ended.
Wall (No. 2) topped Filippoya 6-1, 6-3, while Bondar downed Dakota Brown 6-1, 6-4. Delay bested Andjela Vasic 6-2, 7-5, followed by a 7-6, 6-4 win by Berry at No. 4 over Marketa Marcanikova.
Campbell finished out the match with a No. 6 win over Carla Petreanu.
The Chants return home on Friday to host USC Upstate for an 11 a.m. match at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
