CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team notched a win over Buffalo, 9-4, but suffered an 8-3 defeat to Memphis Saturday in the Chanticleer Challenge.
Coastal (10-13) will return to action Sunday for its final game of the Chanticleer Challenge versus Furman at approximately 12:15 p.m.
Memphis took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the second after two fielding errors from the Chanticleers. The Tigers continued their momentum as they took a 7-0 lead in the third. Brooke Lee hit a leadoff home run before Regan Hadley doubled up the middle, plating Hannah Harrell. Kyler Trosclair later reached on a fielding error to send Hadley home.
The Chanticleers responded with two runs in the bottom of the third. Angela Buccilli (2-for-3) doubled and Bri Chiusano (2-for-4) singled. An RBI ground out by Taty Forbes sent Buccilli home and Morgan Noad (3-for-4) doubled to center field, plating Chiusano for a 7-2 difference.
A home run from Memphis', Regan Hadley put the Tigers up 8-2 in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, a Kelsey Dominik RBI-single provided the 8-3 final score.
Ashley Guillette suffered the loss, now 3-3 on the season, allowing five hits and six runs.
In game two for Coastal on Saturday, Buffalo put a run on the board in the top of the second after an RBI single to left field from Ashton Earnhardt. The Bulls added another run in the third with home run from Katie Weimer for a 2-0 lead.
Coastal answered with four runs in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI double from Forbes and a three run homer from Dominik to put the Chants in the lead, 4-2.
Coastal matched its effort in the fourth inning, also scoring four runs to lead 8-2. Sophomore Timi Tooley smacked her first career homerun to give CCU a 5-2 advantage. Then, with two outs, Noad hit a three-run homer over the right field fence to boost the score to 8-2.
The Bulls answered in the fifth inning with a two-run homer by Savanna Norcio to close the Buffalo deficit to 8-4.
Forbes capped the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth inning that provided the final score, 9-4. Taylor Rahach earned her first career win, moving to a 1-2 record on the season. She pitched 4.0 innings and allowed nine hits and four runs. Dominik finished the game by pitching 3.0 scoreless innings.
