Coastal Downs Campbell, Wins Seventh Straight

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team's winning streak was stretched to seven games, and the Chanticleers (11-3, 3-0) remained perfect in Big South play with a 5-2 victory at Campbell (7-5, 1-2) Wednesday afternoon.
Coastal fell behind early after surrendering the doubles point, but responded with a near sweep of singles as the Chants claimed five of the remaining six points.
"Playing Campbell is always a battle, especially at their place," said head coach Catherine Hewitt following the match. "I'm very proud of the effort, composure and heart we showed today to get this win."
Coastal's top doubles pairing of Libby Scott and Sara Bondar managed to blank Iri Karangozishvili and Nina Asanin to open the match, but the Camels responded with wins on the second and third courts to take a 1-0 lead.
Natalie Wall and Cari Berry fell 6-3 to Georgina Segarra and Isabel Boada at No. 2 before Maud Mrad and Ewa Telenga finished the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3 over Marie Babayan and Romane Delay.
The Chants overcame the early deficit by taking the first three singles points on courts four, one and six, all in straight sets.
Babayan (No. 4) started the rally against Asanin, Scott (No. 1) gave Coastal lead with a win over Karangozishvili, and Bondar (No. 6) put the Chants a point away from the win after topping Claire Bedi.
Segarra cut Coastal's lead to one with a straight-sets win over Wall at No. 2, but Berry responded with a 7-5, 7-6 result at No. 5 to seal the match.
Delay won the final singles point at No. 3 in the only match to reach a third set.
The Chants return to the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex for their next five matches, beginning with an 11:30 meeting against Morgan State on Saturday.
