CLINTON, S.C. - Kelsey Dominik was 2-for-3 with a home run and pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Coastal Carolina softball team to a 3-0 win Monday morning at Presbyterian College.
With the win, Coastal claims the Big South opening series, improves to 15-14 overall and goes to 2-1 in the conference. The Blue Hose fall to 15-12, 1-2.
Dominik (10-7) only allowed four hits and three walks with three strikeouts to earn the win. In addition to Dominik's blast, Coastal got solo home runs from Kailey Mellen and Annie Robinson to account for the Chanticleers' three runs.
Robinson gave Coastal a 1-0 lead with a leadoff home run to left center field in the top of the second.
In the third inning, the Chants hit a pair of solo home runs. First, Dominik led off with a shot to center field. Two batters later, Mellen cleared the right center field fence to provide what proved to be the final score.
Coastal pounded out 11 hits in the win with Dominik, Robinson and Angela Buccilli each collecting two.
Coastal Carolina will return home to face North Carolina on Wednesday (Mar. 23) with first pitch set for 3 pm. The Chants will remain home for a weekend series with Liberty.
